Abstract: Descriptions of works of art is a very common literary form of the Greek literature of the Roman Empire, as a development of the progymnasma ekphrasis included in the repertory of rhetoric paideia. Our aim in this paper is to focus on the Descriptions by Callistratus, often neglected, and to put them side by side with the Imagines of the Philostratus, in order to show their differences and to make evident that the approaches of each author are mostly not the same, although they share similar formal skills.2024-02-09T12:50:05ZIntroduçao: Filóstrato y la hegemonía de una helenidad renovada, según los tiempos y circunstanciasMestre, Francescahttp://hdl.handle.net/2445/2073672024-03-12T17:02:13Z2024-02-09T12:18:41ZTitle: Introduçao: Filóstrato y la hegemonía de una helenidad renovada, según los tiempos y circunstancias
Author: Mestre, Francesca
Author: Riu, Xavier
Abstract: This paper intends to re-discuss a subject that was long debated years ago and then somewhat neglected, the figure of Thersites in the Iliad as an invective poet, in relation to the social function of iambic poetry. The various aspects of the character are worth considering together, namely: his contradictory features; his portrayal as a specialist in laughter; the loaded description of his speech, and at the same time the collocation of the episode in the Iliad. His connections with the figure of the invective poet are discussed in relation to both his physical and social presentation, and to the insistence on the inadequacy of both form and content of his speech in the context of the Iliad (the heavy characterization in just three verses as ἀμετροεπής, ἔπεα ἄκοσμα, οὐ κατὰ κόσμον: the meaning of especially the second and third is much more precise than is usually assumed). These elements will be brought together and contrasted with the usual treatment of the invective poet in real life (as opposed to poetry) in order to conclude that the collocation of the episode in the Iliad may well tell us something about the function of invective poetry in archaic Greece.2024-02-08T14:01:16ZUnexpected grammaticalizations: The reanalysis of the Spanish verb ir 'to go' as a past markerGarachana Camarero, Marhttp://hdl.handle.net/2445/2073012024-03-12T17:02:13Z2024-02-08T11:44:42ZTitle: Unexpected grammaticalizations: The reanalysis of the Spanish verb ir 'to go' as a past marker
Author: Garachana Camarero, Mar
Abstract: From a typological perspective, the evolution of a verb meaning ‘to go’ as a future tense marker is a common grammaticalization chain. The evolution of an allative verb as a past tense is much less expected, though documented. In modern Spanish, for instance, it exists a past marker formed by a coordinating structure: ir ‘to go’ + y ‘and’ + finite verbal group. The aim of this paper is to explore the motivations behind the grammaticalization process experienced by the Spanish structure ir ‘to go’ + y ‘and’ + finite verbal group as a past marker and as a quotative marker. We follow a usage-based approach to language change, combined with Grammaticalization and Diachronic Construction Grammar.2024-02-08T11:44:42ZEl soldat fanfarró de PlauteArtigas, Estherhttp://hdl.handle.net/2445/2072962024-03-12T17:02:13Z2024-02-08T11:34:47ZTitle: El soldat fanfarró de Plaute

Author: Artigas, Esther; Garachana Camarero, Mar
Abstract: It is a well attested fact that possessive verbs spread to di!erent meanings. In
many languages, these lexical verbs often lead to auxiliary and semiauxiliary
verbs. This is the case of Lat. 'HABEO', and its Romance
descendants, that gave rises to di!erent periphrastic constructions whose
meaning goes from a past and a future tense to a deontic modality.
In this paper we re(ect on the formation in Medieval Spanish of the
deontic verbal periphrases haber + (nexus) + infnitive, which added some
discursive meanings related to the modality to a new grammatical form. The
emergence of these verbal constructions gave rise to a major change in the
medieval verbal system, whose sources can be found in Latin.2024-02-08T08:26:25ZHeroides d'OvidiArtigas, Estherhttp://hdl.handle.net/2445/2072782024-03-12T17:02:13Z2024-02-08T08:02:23ZTitle: Heroides d'Ovidi

Abstract: Els amors feliços i sense obstacles no acostumen a despertar gaire interès, perquè ni alleugen ni il·luminen la nostra pròpia dissort.
Author: Marcos Hierro, Ernest, 1963-
