Start-ups and the formation of entrepreneurship in the manufacturing sector
Author: Li, Xinmeng
Abstract: Entrepreneurship is spatially unequally distributed in Spain and manufacturing entry rates have not been high in the last three years. Using data from the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) and SABI databases, this study explores the factors that influence manufacturing entrepreneurship clusters in the Spanish provinces by highlighting the importance of industrial localization and urbanization factors. At the industry level, our results support the existence of a significant Marshallian effect in the manufacturing sector, as more manufacturing entrepreneurship is likely to occur where there is a concentration of upstream firms and a strong labor market. In the case of urbanized economies, population size is positively related to manufacturing entrepreneurship, while population density is negatively related to it. Based on Marshallian theory, our paper's analysis of the spatial clustering of start-ups in the Spanish manufacturing sector can be useful to local and national policy makers planning to encourage entrepreneurship.

Abstract: Often, formulas are sought to help entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have a business model that allows them to operate and expand globally at a low cost. Scalability and internationalization of the business model have become a general necessity for entrepreneurs and SMEs due to the limited size and demand of domestic markets. Therefore, entrepreneurs and companies must internationalize their operations to grow and develop. E-commerce-based businesses are a suitable option to achieve this and expand the business internationally; however, entrepreneurs and companies face the challenge of shipping their goods to foreign countries and the difficulties of delivering them to the end customer. This work aims to analyze and delve deeper into Dropshipping to shed light on its contribution in the context of Spanish e-commerce and assess its economic dimension. It also seeks to establish its theoretical framework and identify the companies that comprise it. Dropshipping allows entrepreneurs and SMEs to expand their product range without acquiring stocks, incurring the costs of storing such items, managing inventory, or handling delivery logistics—the well-known "last-mile delivery." Dropshipping offers various delivery options, such as discreet or customized packaging, including invoices and receipts from the company that hired the service. Our study, focused on Dropshipping, aims to describe the phenomenon, assess its scale in Spain, establish its theoretical models, highlighting its advantages and disadvantages, and propose solutions to some of its issues, such as those generated by information asymmetry presented in agency theory. We propose an efficient solution to this problem based on Blockchain technology and the use of smart contracts, as well as rapid international expansion mechanisms through growth hacking techniques.

Author: Patel, Karan
Abstract: In 20th century, there has been a change in customer’s attitude towards lifestyle. Consumers give a lot of importance to brands. This is because consumers have become more selective and are much more aware about the products, thanks to the noise created by certain advertisement medium such as radio, newspaper, magazines, hoardings and websites. To attain a competitive edge, marketers use celebrity endorsement as an effective marketing strategy in order to fit their products in consumer’s mind. The central aim of this research article is to understand certain parameters of celebrity endorsement that affect the consumer’s purchase intension in the fashion industry. In order to compare the influence of cultural differences, the study focuses on two countries: India and Spain.
The Indian sample consists of 249 respondents, while Spanish sample consists of 237 respondents. An online questionnaire was circulated containing two sections. The response was collected and processed with a statistical tool called STATA 16.1 using simultaneous equation (OLS). The results show a clear cultural influence on these two countries with respect to celebrity endorsement in fashion industry. The contributions of this research will help marketers to frame appropriate theory using celebrity endorsements, which will be fruitful for the brand on long-term basis.

Author: Zhang, Mengmeng
Abstract: The impact of organizational slack on firm growth always attracts a great academic concern. however, the investigation about the external factor that will affect the above-mentioned relationship can be barely found. This study undertakes an empirical analysis with regards to the moderating effect of innovation capability on the relationship between organizational slack and future firm growth. We applied a sample of 280 firms in Europe and 2520 years observation from 2011-2019. The result from fixed-effect model shows that unabsorbed slack positively affects future firm growth, also innovation capability can positively moderate the relationship between unabsorbed slack and firm growth. However, we didn’t find any evidence to support our same hypothesis in terms of absorbed slack. Additionally, we find that PP&E investment will promote the firm growth while the firm size has negative effect on firm growth.

Author: Yu, Miao
Abstract: Development of the global economy makes a deeper level of interaction between the domestic and international markets in recent years. For this reason, more and more firms choose to internationalize part of their value chain in foreign countries, including research and development (R&D) activities. This paper aims to investigate the impact of R&D internationalization of Chinese MNEs on their corporate’s innovation performance in terms of intensity and diversity. Using data of the Top 100 MNEs from China in 2021, I perform an Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression to test the model. The results indicate that there is a U-shaped relationship between the intensity of R&D internationalization and firm’s innovation performance and an inverted U-shaped relationship for the diversity of R&D internationalization. This paper expands the literature on innovation outcomes of R&D internationalization in the context of emerging economies and also provides guideline for those managers in MNEs to realize the threshold in the process of R&D internationalization to maximize their benefits.

The case of the banking industry
Author: Chiu, Kuan-Ling
Abstract: We analyse the relationship between environmental, social and governance (ESG) pillars of sustainability and financial performance (FP) in the banking industry through evaluating profitability and market value. The indicator for profitability is return on assets (ROA) and for market value is Tobin’s Q. Furthermore, we examine two moderating effects to analyse (i) if the financial technology (Fintech) firms outperform traditional banks by participating in ESG activities, and (ii) the change of these relationships before and after the Covid-19 outbreak. The sample contains 697 firms, which includes banking and investment banking services in EU, US and Asia, and Fintech firms identified from the KBW and Nasdaq Fintech (KFTX) Indices and NASDAQ Insurance Index (IXIS) over a 4-year period (2017-2020).
The analysis was performed using feasible generalised least square (FGLS). Our results show that depending on the measure of ESG pillar, a positive relationship between ESG performance and FP. Specifically, social scores have positive impact on the profitability whilst environmental scores have positive impact on the market value. Moreover, we find that the positive relationship between ESG and FP is stronger in Fintech firms. Similarly, the pandemic enhanced the positive influence of environmental scores on market value.
However, the influence of social scores on market value turns into negative after pandemic. We also find that by involving in ESG activities Fintech firms can increase more market value than traditional banks, although this method may negatively affect their profitability after pandemic.
We contribute to the sustainability literature in the financial industry. For academic implication, it is necessary to evaluate sustainability by three pillars rather than as a single construct unifying the three different pillars; for investor and practitioners, ESG is relevant to be consider as the non-financial indicators to assess the FP.
In the future, we hope researchers could improve the limitation of the availability of post-pandemic data in this study.

Author: Solá Uyaguari, José Luis
Abstract: The present work aims to analyze the effect of labor reforms of employment protection on labor tax avoidance (LTA). Based on empirical studies related to tax avoidance and employment protection, the flexibility of laborreforms can lead to tax avoidance practices for social security contributions taking advantage on weak employment protection. Ravenda, Argilés-Bosch, & Valencia-Silva (2015)find consistent evidence that legally registered mafia firms(LMFs)are more involved in LTA than Lawful firms do. However, there is no evidence on the effect of level of employment protectionon labor tax avoidance, soan analysis of the impact that these reforms cause to the tax authorities and the need to regulate them is carried out.
