(eng) In recent years there has been an economic crisis and consequently financial markets have been exposed to profound transformations. In light of this, the present paper analyses the behaviour on the stock markets of one of the sectors in Spain that it is most exposed to the changes in economy: the banking system. The first part of the paper examines the behaviour on the stock market of the most important Spanish banks. In order to explore the similarities and differences among these entities, their developmental stages are identified, several graphs are designed, the temporal variations in their shares’ prices are computed and correlations between shares and indexes are estimated. Following that, a stock index, which was composed by the main Spanish banks, is developed. This index is compared to the IBEX-‐ 35 and the stock index designed by Banco de España. Finally, following thesame schema employed in the first part, the main Spanish banks with the most important European banking systems are compared. This is made through the development and comparisonof a stock index of the banking sector for each selected country. This last part provided an overview that describes, contrasts, and evaluates the Spanish banking system with the main European banking systems.
