La mutilació del patrimoni i la seva recuperació. Estudi i projecte de tractament del fons de portades soltes del CRAI Biblioteca de Reserva (Universitat de Barcelona)

Abstract

[cat] El CRAI Biblioteca de Reserva de la Universitat de Barcelona custodia el fons de portades soltes, un fons pràcticament desconegut que es composa d’uns 67.871 documents. La gran majoria d’aquests són portades de llibres que la biblioteca ja tenia sota la seva custòdia. Aquestes portades, i altres pàgines que es conserven, van ser arrancades el 1937, tal i com s’ha pogut documentar amb una carta manuscrita per Francesc Nabot i Tomàs trobada a l’Arxiu Històric de la Universitat. Ell mateix va separar algunes de les portades quan treballava a la Biblioteca. L’any 2007 es van començar les tasques d’ordenació del fons, que van continuar fins el 2015. A finals d’aquest any, es va iniciar aquest treball i, entre desembre de 2015 i febrer de 2016, es van ordenar les 70 caixes restants per reunir informació necessària per al projecte de restauració, conservació i difusió del fons. Aquest treball vol iniciar una reflexió sobre la pèrdua patrimonial i la necessitat de conservar els seus escassos testimonis físics. Els objectius marcats pel treball volen donar resposta a diverses preguntes que se’ns plantegen davant un fons com aquest: què és, com ha arribat, per què ha arribat i què en fem. S’ha estudiat la formació de la Biblioteca de la Universitat per establir una possible procedència de les portades a partir de bibliografia diversa i dels documents de l’Arxiu Històric de la Universitat de Barcelona. El treball directe amb el fons de portades ha permès diagnosticar l’estat de conservació d’aquest i determinar el tractament de restauració, conservació i difusió més adequat, atenent les possibilitats i recursos de la mateixa Universitat per poder desenvolupar una proposta de tractament. Aquesta proposta s’ha centrat en aquells documents considerats com a “portades”, separant-ne d’altres que puguin necessitar tractaments diferenciats. El treball directe amb el fons ha permès conèixer les diverses tipologies documentals que el composen i veure l’ampli ventall de riquesa que presenta per a futurs projectes d’investigació. Es considera que el tractament proposat és factible i ajudaria a la bona difusió del fons entre els usuaris de la comunitat universitària i els estudiosos del llibre.

[eng] The Rare Book and Manuscript CRAI Library of the University of Barcelona houses the unknown loose title pages collection, composed of 67,871 documents. The majority of them are loose title pages from books under the Library's supervision. According to a handwritten letter found in the Historic Archival of the University, these title pages were torn off in 1937. The letter was written by Francesc Nabot i Tomàs, who worked in the Library and separated some of the covers. The arrangement of the collection started in 2007 and it continued until 2015. Between December 2015 and February 2016, this research began and the 70 remaining boxes were arranged to compile the necessary information for a restoration, conservation and diffusion project. This project aims to encourage reflection about the patrimonial loss and the need to conserve the little evidence left. The objective of this project is to answer four questions that raise before a collection like this one: what is it, how did it reach us, why did it reach us and what shall we do with it. We have studied the formation of the University Library in order to learn more about the origins of the loose title pages collection. The information has been gathered from a varied bibliography and the documents in the Historic Archival of the University of Barcelona. Working directly with the collection enabled the elaboration of the conservation diagnosis and the design of the subsequent restoration and conservation treatment and diffusion, taking into account the existing resources of the University of Barcelona. The project focuses exclusively on the documents considered “title pages”, dismissing those which could require different treatments. Working directly with the collection made it possible to know the different types of documents that constitute it, which will allow the development of lots of different research projects in the future. The treatment proposed is feasible and it will represent the diffusion of the collection among the university community and book researchers.
