Abstract: Ever since its inception, the French roman narrative genre has experienced several processes of integration of fi n'amors vocabulary and of themes and topics from troubadour lyric. The infl uence of Occitan troubadour poetry on medieval French narrative accentuates during the thirteenth century, occasionally materialising in lyric quotations within narrative texts. The aim of this work is to analyse the adaptation of troubadour love ethics to the pro-marriage and monarchic ideals of the twelfth and thirteenth-century French roman. This purpose will be served by the study of translation and resemantisation of fi n'amors words carried out by Jean Renart, the fi rst author to introduce lyric quotations in French narrative.
