Características del buen profesor de español como lengua extranjera según las creencias de estudiantes universitarios taiwaneses

[spa] El propósito de este trabajo es describir las características del buen profesor de español como lengua extranjera y con ese propósito hemos consultado a un perfil de alumno concreto, el estudiante universitario taiwanés, un perfil de estudiante sinohablante, pero con características diferentes de las de los estudiantes de China. Consideramos la consulta con el alumnado como forma de democratización de las instituciones educativas y de mejora de los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje. Si este proceso debe estar centrado en el alumno, en sus necesidades, ritmo y motivaciones, para definir las características del buen profesor de español como lengua extranjera hemos de conocer las creencias de los estudiantes al respecto. Por ello hemos recurrido a consultar a los estudiantes mediante una encuesta anónima, incluyendo en una sección una réplica en pequeño formato de un estudio más amplio y con el mismo fin realizado por el Instituto Cervantes (2011). Los estudiantes consultados han descrito prioritariamente tener una buena actitud, definida por la paciencia, capacidad de trabajo, profesionalidad y pasión por la enseñanza. En segundo orden de importancia, el estudiante de español taiwanés consultado demanda tanto el uso de metodologías que le permitan abordar un idioma percibido como especialmente difícil (en concreto las destrezas de expresión e interacción oral) como un profesor con conocimientos de las variedades dialectales y las culturas de Hispanoamérica, que implemente estos contenidos en el sílabo de forma prioritaria. Asimismo, los universitarios taiwaneses valoran la capacidad de adaptar el discurso didáctico al nivel de comprensión del alumno para explicar en español nuevos léxicos, aspectos gramaticales, culturales y cuantos contenidos se aborden en el aula entre otras características.

[eng] The purpose of this study is to identify the qualities that make a good teacher of Spanish as a foreign language. In order to achieve this aim, we have consulted a specific student profile: the Taiwanese university student - a student who is Chinese-speaking but whose characteristics differ from Chinese students. This consultation with students was intended to democratise educational institutions and to improve the teaching and learning process. For this process to be student-centred, taking into consideration the students’ needs, learning pace and motivations, we need to know what characteristics students believe to be important in a good Spanish teacher. We therefore consulted with the students through an anonymous survey, part of which was based on a wider study carried out for similar purposes by the Instituto Cervantes (2011). The results of the survey show that the teacher characteristic identified as most important by the Taiwanese students is a good attitude, consisting of patience, willingness to work, professionalism and passion for teaching. On a secondary level of importance, the students appreciate the use of methodology, which consists in helping students to tackle this language which can be daunting at times, especially in oral expression and interaction skills. They also like a teacher to have a knowledge of dialects and cultures of Hispanic America, which they consider to be an important aspect of the Spanish syllabus. Furthermore, the ability to adapt the teaching discourse to the students’ comprehension level, in order to explain the new lexicons, grammatical aspects, cultural issues and other contents introduced in the classroom, is highly valued in Spanish courses.
