Los engranajes de un imperio. El impacto de la crisis del siglo III en las ciudades de Hispania

Abstract

El desarrollo de los estudios sobre la llamada Crisis del siglo III en Hispania a lo largo de los años ha permitido ampliar nuestra percepción de esta etapa tan convulsa de la historia de Roma y que tanto ha cambiado las ciudades. Se ofrece, primeramente, un debate historiográfico sobre el verdadero impacto que tuvo el periodo de inestabilidad de la dinastía de los Severos. En el apartado del cambio de las ciudades, se analiza la tradicional visión de decadencia, así como, en el apartado social, el evergetismo y la reducción de funciones del magistrado tras la creación de la figura del curator. Muchos de los aspectos tratados en este trabajo forman parte de la historia del Bajo Imperio, por lo que en la historiografía tradicional siempre han tenido una consideración peyorativa que no refleja la realidad tal y como era.

Over the years, the development of the studies of the so-called Crisis of the Third Century in Hispania has allowed us to widen our perception of this tumultuous stage of the history of Rome and how the cities have changed. It is offered, in the first place, a historiographical debate about the true impact of the period of instability of the Severan dynasty. In the change of the cities section, it is analyzed the traditional view of decay, as well as, in the social section, the evergetism and the reduction of the functions of the magistrates after the creation of the figure of the curator. Many of these aspects treated in this project are part of the history of the Late Empire, so in traditional historiography they always had a pejorative consideration that does not reflect reality as it was.
