Abstract: [en] Zipf’s law, formulated by George Kingsley Zipf, states that the word frequency is inversely proportinal to its Zipf rank with an exponent slightly larger than the unit. This statement is not only valid in a linguistic context, but also serves for most frequency and rank phenomena. Because of this, Zipf’s law is known as the distribution of frequencies and ranks. Then, the objective of this work is to introduce this law, explaning its origin and its different formulations, and develop one of its applications, the distribution of frequencies in texts.
