| ca |
dc.description.abstract | [eng] This work replicates Rochester & Martin’s (1979) results after analysing 6 psychiatrist/patient free interviews. Their results show that schizophrenic formal thought disorder is characterized by the presence of a statistically significant overuse of lexical cohesion in comparison to the other cohesive devices (referential, conjunctive, elliptical and substitutive devices). Concurrently, R&M (1979) identify an overproduction of generics as a second hallmark of FTD, which would contribute to the increase of lexical cohesion. This work, by means of a thorough analysis of the sample, suggests that the overuse of generics is related to the increment of lexical cohesion but, unlike from R&M (1979), proposes that the anomalous overproduction of the later is at the basis of the overuse of the former rather than the other way around. | ca |
