[eng] The present work aims to make an approximation to the study of the material vestiges of the old military optical telegraph network that existed in Catalonia between 1847 and 1862. The optical telegraphy was an early visual communication system deployed during the consolidation of the liberal-bourgeois state in Spain, which allowed messages to be transmitted rapidly through remote signals. A special network of military use was installed in Catalonia, which sought to strengthen state control over the territory and to coordinate the military deployment carried out during the course of the Carlist Wars. This paper focuses on the different towers and fortified telegraph stations that were part of the section of the network linking Manresa and Solsona, analysing their characteristics, functionality, interaction with the territory, etc., working on the principle of dialogue between archaeological and documentary sources. |
