Tiempo de narratividad (el sujeto, entre la memoria y el proyecto)

Abstract

[spa] El presente trabajo apunta en una dirección bien definida: mostrar la centralidad de la noción de sujeto y la necesidad de que éste se dote de los instrumentos adecuados para la aprehensión de la realidad que le es más propia, entre los cuales la narración ocupa un lugar de privilegio. Lo que es como decir: intentar mostrar que el discurso histórico debe, en último término, ser puesto en conexión con el discurso de la acción. No hay violencia teórica alguna en la empresa propuesta, ni la segunda formulación nos aleja un ápice del objetivo marcado por la primera. A fin de cuentas, la fórmula según la cual la filosofía de la historia no es otra cosa que la filosofía de la acción en tiempo pasado va de suyo si nos damos cuenta de que lo que tanto una como otra pretenden es hacer convertir en inteligible el obrar ajeno. Conviene, por ello, no confundir el debate. No perder de vista que es medio, y no fin en sí mismo. Que, en definitiva, lo que está en juego es, como se dice en el arranque del artículo, entender lo que nos pasa, aliviar en lo posible esa perplejidad que fluye, incontenible, de lo que nosotros mismos hacemos.

[eng] The present work points in a well-defined direction: showing the central importance of the notion of subject and the need for it to furnish itself with adequate instruments to grasp its own reality, among which narration occupies a privileged position. Which is as much to say: seek to demonstrate that historical discourse must, in the last analysis, be connected to the discourse of action. There is no theoretical violence whatsoever in the proposed undertaking, nor does the latter formulation take us away one jot from the aim set forth in the former. In the last analysis, the formula according to which philosophy of history is nothing but philosophy of action in time past is self-evident if werealise that what both one and the other claim is to render intelligible the action of others. Therefore, one should not to confuse the debate. One should not lose sight of the fact that it is a means and not an end in itself. That, in the last resort, what is at stake is, as set down at the start of the article, to understand what happens to us, as much as possible to lessen the bewilderment which flows uncontrollably from what we ourselves do.
