[eng] In this project we did some research about the structure of the economy in Venezuela between 2008 and 2018, because we want to know the causes and consequences of the recent crisis. We found that the general government deficit and the balance of payments had important problems before the beginning of recession. The boom of petrol in 2011 made government income increase a lot, but the State spent more and they did not fix the imbalances. When the international structure changed with the crash in oil prices in 2014, Venezuela began a recession. The country still has the past problems and they will need to fix them if they want to end the crisis. Families and companies have made an effort to reduce their debt, but their consumption and investment were decreased. However, the monetary and fiscal policy were not appropriate. The general government deficit has increased to finance it they are monetizing the debt, and this produces high levels of inflation. This crisis affects a lot of countries dependent on commodities, but these events in Venezuela have meant that recession rises and is prolonged. The results of the crisis are reflected in the social situation. Poverty increases, the population's health gets worse and the health system disappears. The people who can, leave Venezuela looking for a new place to live.
