Poesia llatina a la Mallorca del s. XVIII. Josep de Pueyo i Pueyo, marquès de Campofranco

Abstract

[cat] Fins al moment present la figura de Josep de Pueyo i Pueyo ha tengut una presència secundària als estudis sobre la cultura del set-cents a Mallorca, que han dedicat molta més atenció al seu amic i col·laborador Bonaventura Serra. Amb aquesta tesi ens proposam esmenar-ho en part amb l’estudi de la seva obra poètica en llatí. Per començar s’ha dut a terme un recull de les dades que posseïm sobre la seva persona i l’ambient en què es va moure, les quals ens permeten esbossar-ne un retrat i enquadrar- lo en l’entorn cultural de la seva època, tant de dins com de fora l’illa. A continuació s’ofereix una visió succinta de la seva obra literària en castellà i francès i del seu primer poema llatí, la breu composició A un amic afligit. El nucli de la tesi està constituït per l’anàlisi formal i temàtica de les dues principals produccions poètiques en llengua llatina. La primera, Linceu a Procne, és una heroida ovidiana; l’altra, la Parnàssida, una epopeia didàctica al voltant de la vàlua de la poesia èpica moderna, representada aquí per John Milton, enfront dels clàssics de l’Antiguitat. Aquest darrer poema, que podem catalogar dins el gènere del somni literari i que s’emmarca en l’ambient mític del mont Parnàs, permet també albirar els punts de vista de l’autor sobre altres vessants de la literatura o la política. L’anàlisi consta de l’edició i traducció dels textos i d’un estudi tant dels temes i les fonts com de l’aspecte formal mètric i estilístic. A partir d’aquí, es formulen les conclusions sobre el valor de la poesia de Pueyo i la seva posició en l’àmbit cultural de la Mallorca del s. XVIII, i s’enuncien els interrogants que queden oberts.

[eng] Until now, the figure of Josep de Pueyo i Pueyo has had a secondary presence in the studies on the 18th century in Mallorca, which have devoted much more attention to his friend and collaborator Bonaventura Serra. With this thesis we propose to amend it in part with the study of his poetic work in Latin. To begin with, a collection of the data we have about his person and the environment in which he moved has been carried out, which allows us to sketch a portrait of him and frame him in the cultural environment of his period, both inside and outside the island. Below is a brief overview of his literary work in Spanish and French and his first Latin poem, the short composition To a Mourning Friend. The core of the thesis consists of the formal and thematic analysis of his two main poetic productions in Latin. The first, Lynceus to Procne, is an Ovidian heroide; the other, Parnassis, a didactic epic about the value of modern epic poetry, represented here by John Milton, versus the classics of antiquity. This last poem, which can be classified as a literary dream and is part of the mythical setting of Mount Parnassus, also allows us to glimpse the author’s views on other aspects of literature or politics. The analysis consists of the editing and translation of the texts, while also a study of both the themes and sources as well as the formal metrical and stylistic aspect is carried out. From here, conclusions are drawn on the value of Pueyo’s poetry and its position in the cultural sphere of 18th-century Mallorca, and the questions that remain open are stated.
