La parròquia rural a Catalunya (segles XVIII-XIX, Bisbat de Girona)

Abstract

[cat] Aquesta tesi doctoral planteja, a partir de l'àmbit de la diòcesi de Girona (però amb sovintejades comparacions amb la resta de Catalunya), el paper de la parròquia en el marc de la comunitat rural d'Antic Règim, així com en el pas a la societat liberal. S'ha estudiat quin paper tenien les estructures parroquials (obreria, confraries, rectors) en una cornunitat rural socialment diferenciada. En primer lloc, es contempla com el finançament ordinari i extraordinari del culte i el temple requeia damunt la comunitat rural, davant la generalitzada infeudació del delme i la seva desviació fóra dels límits parroquials. La institució de l'obreria -controlada majoritàriament per la pagesia benestant- havia de garantir el finançament i l'administració del culte i el temple. S'estudia, així mateix, el paper de les confraries postridentines. Aquestes confraries, fomentades per l'Església per a enquadrar la població, podien contribuir a fomentar solidaritats verticals al bell mig d'una comunitat rural socialment diferenciada. S'investiga el paper del rector com a notable local i intermediari entre la comunitat rural i l'Església: es considera el seu orígen social, les seves condicions materials de vida i la seva formació cultural. Finalment, un cop dibuixades les característiques generals de la parròquia dins la societat rural d'Antic Règim, es planteja les conseqüències i l'impacte de la Revolució liberal (de manera especial l'abolició del delme) damunt seu. En termes generals, hi hagué un empobriment en les obreries, les confraries i en la dotació dels rectors; empobriment que la dotació estatal del "culte i clero" no evità.

PUIGVERT I SOLÀ TEXT: This dissertation is an analytical study of the parish structures related to the Catalan rural society during the 18th. and 19th. centuries, taking as an example the Bishopric of Girona. The parish is studied from two points of view. On the one hand, the parish represented an administrative institution of the Church which had a strong power over a clearly defined territorial division. It helped to maintain both the payment of the tithe and the structure of the population during the "Ancien Régime". On the other hand, through the churchwardenships or "parish factories" and the "confréries", the parish also provided the different social classes (mainly the wealthy peasantry) wit several possibilities of promotion and privilege. It directed the social protection and the festival and offered specific and tangible advantages. Theses churchwardenships and "confréries" not only helped to deal with all sorts of conflicts inside the parishes, but also offered limits of autonomy and resistance to "the outside" (either the jurisdictional lords, the treasury of the tithe collectors). In this sense, this thesis analyses the relationships which hare been established ("from the bottom") with the parish institution. These relationships, however, have been neither permanent nor monolithic throughout the years. They have changed constantly according to the historical of the Liberal Revolution on the parish structures have been pointed out.
