| spa |
dc.description.abstract | [eng] "LEAF GAS EXCHANGE CHARACTERISTICS OF THREE GERANIUM CULTIVARS GROWN UNDER GREENHOUSE CONDITIONS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN AREA" TEXT: Leaf gas exchange responses to light, leaf temperature and air humidity were studied under laboratory conditions on potted geranium stock plants (Pelargonium x hortorum ev. Orange Ricard, P. grandiflorum ev. Flamingo y P. peltatum ev. Old Lady) grown in a commercial greenhouse in the Mediterranean area. Daily courses of gas exchange (ADC system and LICOR-l600 porometer), and substrate-plant water relations were also measured in the greenhouse. Changes on maximum photosynthetic rate (16-9 mmol C02 m-2 s-l) were due to seasonal variations in stomatal conductance (600-200 mmol m-2 s-1), related to a winter decrease of stomatal density, more than to a decline of mesophyll photosynthetic capacity. The internal CO2 partial pressure was light dependent and this relation changed seasonally. «Orange Ricard» and «Flamingo», unlike «Old Lady», showed both a good tolerance to high temperatures (31-35ºC). The main photosynthesis limiting factors were: low levels of irradiance in the greenhouse, due to an excessive cover shading, and inappropriate irrigation management. | eng |
