La mirada del obstetra

Abstract

[spa] Si todas las imágenes son significantes y a través de ellas se puede llegar a rastrear los distintos contextos ideológicos que las generaron, precisamente aquellas con vocación científica y supuestamente neutral pueden acabar convirtiéndose en las más denotativas de todas, puesto que el conocimiento científico lejos de constituir un universo objetivo, en muchas ocasiones es utilizado (consciente o inconscientemente) para hallar argumentos que justifiquen y legitimen de forma “racional” los prejuicios de las mentalidades dominantes de una sociedad dada. Partiendo de este supuesto, el proyecto “La mirada del obstetra” pretende evidenciar las ficciones que han estado presentes, a lo largo de la historia, en las representaciones científicas del cuerpo femenino que han sido realizadas por las sociedades patriarcales occidentales, con el propósito de cuestionarlas y reflexionar sobre ellas y sobre las herencias nocivas que todavía hoy, por desgracia, siguen marcando el pensamiento científico en torno a los cuerpos y psiques de las mujeres.

[eng] If every single image is significant, and through each one we can follow the trail of the different ideological contexts which produced them, precisely those with a scientific vocation, which are supposedly neutral, may become the most meaningful of all, because scientific knowledge is not an objective universe, and on many occasions it is used (consciously or unconsciously) to find arguments that justify and rationally legitimise a given society’s dominant prejudices. “In the obstetrician´s eyes” aims to show the fictions which have been created in scientific representations of the female body by western patriarchal societies, with the aim of questioning them and encouraging reflexion about the damaging legacies that still today continue to influence scientific thought as regards women’s bodies and psyches.
