Sources data PhD / MIPE GIS course, January-February 2024

This list details the sources for the data used in the examples shown in the slides, in case you want to download them and use them to follow along.

If you make use of any of these data beyond the learning goals of the course, see licence in their original sources. 

- Elevation raster - SRTM folder:
	- SRTMGL3S v003. NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission Global 3 arc second sub-sampled.

- Spanish administrative division (Provincias) - GADM folder:

	- The coordinate reference system is longitude/latitude and the WGS84 datum.
	- Same for Portuguese administrative division.

- Spanish population (Provincias) - pop_data_spain.xlsx
	- Instituto Nacional de Estadística. 
	- Total population by province in 2021:

		- Modified the Excel file so province names (new column: provincia_ine_gadm) would match with gadm province names "NAME_2" in gadm41_ESP_2

	- Note about the coordinates and population data:
		- Las coordenadas asignadas a todas las unidades poblacionales (municipios o entidades de población) han sido dadas a centroides (centroide: punto que se encuentra lo más centrado posible en el núcleo poblacional). / Los datos de la población incluidos son los publicados con fecha 1 de enero del año 2022, por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística. Este dato se actualiza de forma anual.
	- See licence included in the documentation if you are to use these data. 
	- Note: the MUNICIPIOS.CSV file is not the original one downloaded from the link. I have done some debugging by saving an Excel file from Microsoft Access and then saving to csv (otherwise there were problems when importing the data).
