Les dimensions simbòliques de la desigualtat social: Els joves davant l’imaginari neoliberal dins dels nous espais de risc d’exclusió social

Abstract

(cat) L‟augment de les desigualtats socials posa de manifest la relació de les polítiques neoliberals amb el declivi del benestar social de gran part de la població. La flexibilitat, la precarietat i el desmantellament de l‟Estat de Benestar han provocat l‟aparició de nous espais de risc d‟exclusió social on molts joves s‟hi estan veient desplaçats. Aquests espais es caracteritzen pel treball precari, l‟atur, els salaris baixos i les baixes qualificacions. La nostra aproximació a traves de l'estudi de les dimensions simbòliques ens permet comprendre com la representació de l‟imaginari neoliberal contribueix a la producció i a la reproducció de les desigualtats socials. Els processos de creació de significats no han rebut tanta atenció en l‟estudi de les desigualtats, però l‟efecte dels discursos que promocionen un individu actiu, autònom i individualment responsable condicionen l‟experiència dels joves ubicats dins dels nous espais de risc d'exclusió social i les estratègies que desenvolupen per a intentar millorar la seva posició social.

(eng) This dissertation explores the relationship between growing social inequalities and neoliberal policies. Flexibility, uncertainty and the dismantling of the Welfare State have produced the emergence of new areas of risk of social exclusion where youth are being displaced. These areas are characterized by precarious work, unemployment, low wages and low qualifications. Our approach through the study of symbolic dimensions allows us to understand how the neoliberal imaginary influences the production and reproduction of social inequality. The study of meaning-making processes and social inequality have remained generally beyond the scope of inquiry, however discourses based on activation, autonomy and personal responsibility shape the experience of youth within the new spaces of risk of social exclusion and their strategies to improve their social position.
