Línia defensiva de la Fatarella

Abstract

Aquest estudi pretén reflexionar sobre la importància de l'arqueologia d'època contemporània, i com aquesta pot ajudar a explicar les diferents batalles que van tenir lloc durant la Guerra Civil Espanyola. En particular, aquest treball es centra en l'estudi de la Línia Defensiva de la Fatarella, un conjunt d'estructures militars construïdes per l'exèrcit republicà durant la batalla de l'Ebre (1938). Precisament a aquestes posicions van tenir lloc els últims moments de l'anomenada batalla, i per aquesta raó queden nombrosos vestigis. Així doncs, el treball pretén contrastar les fonts documentals amb les restes arqueològiques, de manera que ambdues disciplines es complementin amb la finalitat d'establir unes conclusions basades en la combinació de totes les dades disponibles. L'objectiu d'aquest treball és doncs, reflexionar sobre la necessitat d'aplicar la metodologia arqueològica en contextos d'època contemporània per a obtenir una major diversitat de les fonts i explotar al màxim les possibilitats d'investigació dels vestigis d'aquest període.

This research ponders on the importance of the archaeology of Contemporary Age, and how this can help explaining the different battles that took place during the Spanish Civil War. In particular, this paper focuses on the study of the defensive line from La Fatarella, a set of structures built by the Republicans during The battle of the Ebro (1938). In these locations took place the last moments of the battle and for this reason remain numerous vestiges. So that, the paper attempts to contrast the documentary sources with the archaeological remains, in a way that both disciplines complement each other in order to establish some conclusions based on a combination of all available data. The aim of this research is to consider on the need of applying the archaeological methodology in contexts of Contemporary Age to obtain a greater diversity of sources and to fully exploit the possibilities of research in the vestiges of this period.
