Abstract: | [eng] The aim of this dissertation is to examine the role and purpose of female characters in Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, in order to determine whether his social denunciation regarding the black community’s rights includes not only men, but also women. To do so, the novel will be
analyzed and five different articles on the topic will be used to support the drawn conclusions. After a brief explanation of the novel’s historical and social context, the analysis of the interactions between female characters and the narrator will serve as the base to establish the women’s role and purpose in the story. Finally, examining how they participate in Ellison’s portrayal and denounce of the numerous stereotypes that white society had about black men will help determine what use the author makes of his female creations.. |
