L’altra Barcelona

Abstract

[cat] La Barcelona del segle XX va patir un important creixement demogràfic a causa de la immigració provinent de la resta de l’Estat. La ciutat no va saber integrar els nouvinguts, i això va generar un problema urbanístic i social basat en l’autoconstrucció anàrquica de barraques, la marginació i la precarietat de l’habitatge. El barraquisme espontani, amb el temps, va evolucionar cap a una resposta urbanística en forma de polígons d'habitatge i barris perifèrics. Les autoritats governamentals pretenien solucionar el problema d’aquesta manera, però el mal plantejament a nivell polític i ideològic, que prioritzava l’especulació a les necessitats de la població, va significar que part de Barcelona es veiés afectada negativament. L’altra Barcelona pretén crear una visió actual de la ciutat des de la perspectiva de l’urbanisme i del seu passat barraquista. Vol trencar amb l’imaginari icònic i turístic de la marca Barcelona i mostra una ciutat que, encara avui viu les paradoxes constructives d’un barraquisme mai solucionat.

[eng] Barcelona suffered in the 20th century an important population growth caused by migrants coming from all over the country. The city was not able to integrate all this people, and this caused an urban and social problem that led to the self-construction of shanties, social exclusion and poor housing. Spontaneous shantyism became over time an urban response, with the shape of housing estates and peripheral districts. Government authorities expected to solve the problem this way, but a poor political and ideological plan –which prioritised speculation over the inhabitants’ needs–adversely affected Barcelona. L’altra Barcelona wants to create a current view of the city from a very specific perspective: Barcelona’s past of shantyism. This project wants to break with the iconic and touristic imaginary of the “Barcelona trademark” and to present a city that still today has not solved the building paradoxes of shantyism.
