Abstract: A heterometallic Ni4Tb field-induced SMM has been grafted onto the surface of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles. The magnetic coupling within the Ni4Tb and between the Ni4Tb and iron oxide nanoparticle has been studied by element specific XMCD measurements. The coupling between Ni and Tb is ferromagnetic and the complex remains intact when grafted onto the iron oxide nanoparticles.
