Abstract: | Renal reperfusion injury can be defined as the renal damage suffered by a kidney because of reestablishment of blood flow prolonged ischemia. Increased permeability for calcium ions, subsequent activation of endogenous phospholipases, and damage mediated by oxygen free radicals are involved in this reperfusion injury. Inhibition of inflammatory mediators of endothelial origin, such as superoxide radicals and platelet-activating factor (PAF), is a possible way of protecting the injured endothelium following blood reperfusion. |
