Abstract: Two stress indicators in bone (cribra orbitalia and dental hypoplasia) have been studied in a sample of individuals from the Palaeochristian necropolis of Tarragona (Catalonia). The relationship between these stress indicators and the social status of each individual within the community, inferred from the type of burial, have been considered. A negative correlation between the stress indicators and the type of burial can be observed, not being statistically significant though. In this regard, the frequency of cribra and hypoplasia seems to be somewhat lower for the individuals buried in the more elaborated tombs. The use of these stress indicators for determining social status and the correlation between social status and archaeological information are discussed.
