[eng] New scientific ideas and the interpretation of new concepts that reached the Arab world during the 19th and 20th centuries favoured the emergence of a new terminology. Due to these factors, diverse Academies of the Arabic Language emerged throughout the entire Arab community with the main purpose of establishing a clear regulation for the processes of coining, creating and adapting this new terminology. This work studies and compares the lexicon used in the field of “soul medicine” —9th and 10th centuries— with that of current psychology, mainly through the second part of Abū Zayd al-Balkhī's work, Maṣāliḥ al-abdān wa-l-anfus —Sustenance of the body and soul—, and, to a lesser extent, from the work of the shaīkh al-Sulamī, Diseases of the soul and their remedies. In addition, in a second part, a lexicological study is carried out on some expressions and terms used in this field currently in the Arab world, thus demonstrating the derivation processes exposed by the Academies for the creation of neologisms. |
