Abstract: [en] In this work, we study how the notion of causality emerges as a natural feature of the geometry of spacetimes. We present a description of the causal structure by means of the causality relations and we investigate on some of the different causal properties that spacetimes can have, thereby introducing the so-called causal ladder. We pay special attention to the link between causality and topology, and further develop this idea by offering an overview of some spacetime topologies in which the natural connection between the two structures is enhanced.
