Els invasors silenciosos. Aproximació als jaga, suposats invasors del regne del Congo al segle XVI

Abstract

[cat] Aquest treball té per objectiu aproximar-se a la identitat dels grups que “suposadament” atacaren i saquejaren el regne del Congo el 1568 obligant al sobirà a refugiar-se a l’illa dels cavalls, al riu Congo, i a sol·licitar auxili a Portugal. Aquesta ajuda es traduí en l’enviament d’una expedició capitanejada pel governador de São Tomé, que segons les fons expulsà als jaga. A través de la comparació de textos i la utilització del debat historiogràfic iniciat a la segona meitat del segle XX es pretén fer una descripció dels jaga; explicar i analitzar les diferents teories, arribar a una conclusió sobre si va existir o no dita invasió i quines conseqüències derivà la possible existència d’aquests individus, així com aproximar-se al paper que jugaren els portuguesos en la restauració al tron.

[eng] This project aims to approximate the identity of the groups that "allegedly" attacked and sacked the Kingdom of the Congo in 1568, forcing the sovereign to take refuge on Horse Island, on the Congo River, and seek help. in Portugal. This aid resulted in the sending of an expedition led by the governor of São Tomé who, according to the funds, expelled the jaga. Through the comparison of texts and the use of the historiographical debate that began in the second half of the twentieth century, the aim is to make a description of the jaga; explain and analyze the different theories, and conclude whether or not such an invasion existed and what the consequences were for the possible existence of these individuals, as well as approach the role played by the Portuguese in the restoration to the throne.
