Hacia una definición de las fronteras urbanas: Una exploración geográfica del eje del Besòs en el Área Metropolitana de Barcelona

Abstract

[esp] A partir del estudio de diferentes fronteras urbanas en el eje del Besòs intentaremos hacer una aproximación a los tipos de frontera más determinantes para la realidad de estos barrios y sus habitantes. Para ello, previamente deberemos identificar y definir los diferentes tipos de frontera que encontramos en la ciudad y construir una metodología para analizar cada uno de ellos. Después de haber delimitado y caracterizado brevemente el eje del Besòs, pasaremos a analizar algunas fronteras de cada uno de los tipos: físicas, socioeconómicas y mentales. Veremos cómo las fronteras físicas, como el río o las grandes vías de comunicación, adquieren un poder simbólico por su relación con las fronteras de la estigmatización o de la renovación urbana y cómo todos estas se articulan para perpetuar la condición de estigmatización de determinadas áreas o para conseguir beneficios económicos mediante un proceso de “regeneración urbana”. Con el estudio de las frontera mentales veremos como el resto de fronteras sirven para articular nuestro mapa mental y son capaces de generar determinadas estrategias o pautas de comportamiento tanto en vecinos como en foráneos. Así, conseguiremos tener una visión general del eje del Besòs y los procesos que intervienen y han intervenido en el desarrollo de estos barrios, generando unas condiciones de aprovechamiento de estos entornos por parte de los poderes económicos. Pero, sobre todo, intentaremos entender mejor cómo estos propician la articulación de un entorno en el que los residentes reciben de forma sistemática menos recursos y cuyo espacio va siendo marginado y rodeado por diferentes elementos que dificultan su día a día.

[eng] From an approach to different urban borders in the Besòs axis, we will try to make an approximation to the most determining types of borders for the reality of these neighborhoods and their inhabitants. For this, we must previously identify and define the different types of borders that we find in the city and build a speici methodology for each of them. After having delimited and briefly characterized the Besòs axis, we will analyze some borders of each of the types: physical, socioeconomic and mental. We will see how the physical border,s such as the river or the great communication routes, acquire a symbolic power due to their relationship with the borders of stigmatization or urban renewal and how all of these are articulated to perpetuate the condition of stigmatization of certain areas or to achieve economic benefits through a process of “urban regeneration”. With the study of mental borders we will see how the rest of the borders serve to articulate our mental map and are capable of generating certain strategies or behavior patterns in both neighbors and foreigners. In this way we will be able to have a general vision of the Besòs axis and the processes that influence and have influenced in the development of these neighborhoods, generating conditions for the use of these environments by the economic powers. But above all, our aim is to better understand the articulation of an environment in which residents systematically receive fewer resources and whose space is being marginalized and surrounded by different elements that make their day-to-day life difficult.
