[eng] Catalan modernism is a cultural, literary, political and artistic movement that we situate at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. In art, in Catalonia, it has a very broad meaning. The leading artists in the Catalan art of this movement were Ramon Casas and Santiago Rusiñol, two bohemian artists who traveled to Paris and introduced in their paintings this new way of seeing art influenced by the French impressionists. Raimon Casellas, journalist and modernist writer, was an important figure of the moment, he was the critic who put into words, in the magazine of L'Avenç and in the newspaper of La Vanguardia, the artistic innovations that turned painting into modern. Precisely, this work aims to offer an analysis of some of these articles to see how the critic interprets the works of art, how he explains them and how he propagates them. And, in this way, we can observe how this triple alliance produces the modernist cultural renewal. Key words: modernism, art, artistic criticism, cultural renewal, impressionism. |
