Abstract: | We analyse the structuralist notion of a guiding principle inempirical science in order to show its fruitfulness to tacklesome central issues belonging both to the general as wellas to the special philosophy of science, while also provid-ing some clues to understand recent developments in thephilosophy of science. We shall conclude by laying out thecore characteristics of guiding principles. |
