Abstract: This paper examines the first phase for the implementation of the INNDOC “Problem based learning in urban sociology” (ABP) program for third year BA Sociology students (academic year 2022-2023). This innovation takes place in the Urban Sociology subject which is a compulsory course for third year students. This methodology innovates presenting three ‘real life problems’ of situations in Barcelona having an open resolution, though guided by the theory reviewed during the course and obligatory readings from each case. In addition, this methodology develops a formative process in which students have the agency to decide which problem to solve (from three options) and how they want to orient the solution. This methodology enables acquiring skills for ‘work life’ situations which enables students to imagine some future career path possibilities, very necessary for our Sociology BA. This paper presents the innovation, the day-to-day implementation and the feedback received from our students on this methodology.
