Abstract: Excessive alcohol consumption is a major contributor to illness and mortality on a global scale. Per-capita alcohol consumption rose from 5.5 litres in 2005 to 6.4 litres in 2016 and is projected to reach 7.6 litres by 2030. In 2019, alcohol was associated with roughly a quarter of all cirrhosis-related deaths worldwide. The aim of this study is to assess the economic impact of premature mortality due to cirrhosis in Spain.
