Camp de la Bota. Fòrum de les Cultures

[cat] Al front marítim de Barcelona es va inaugurar, l’any 2004, el Fòrum de les Cultures. Des de principis del segle xix en aquest mateix lloc va existir el Camp de la Bota. Entre ambdós han transcorregut molts anys. Què s’hi amaga en aquest espai? És veritat que no conserva cap memòria històrica ni identitat? Qué ha passat amb tot el que hi ha enterrat? Una gran depuradora, barraquisme, afusellaments i una mala gestió urbanística. Molta gent pot considerar aquest espai com a «no lloc», però, si furguem en el seu sòl, hi podem desemmascarar les histories ocultes que es van viure en aquesta immensa esplanada disfressada. Mitjançant la pintura reflexiono sobre el paisatge urbà i la memòria. Hi ha espais públics en la contemporaneïtat on podem experimentar una certa desorientació i on ens és difícil de situar-nos. El sentiment d’estar sols i la incomunicació que es produeix en aquests llocs ens aïlla del medi social d’una manera involuntària. Es construeix així una societat en la qual ens veiem obligats a oblidar el passat i accentuar el nostre individualisme. És possible que el desenvolupament urbanístic a les grans capitals s’ocupi de descuidarnos del passat esborrant tota empremta humana i tota identitat?

[eng] Barcelona inaugurated the Forum of the Cultures on its waterfront in 2004. In the same place, El Camp de la Bota existed since the xixth century. Many years have passed between these two events. What is truly hidden on this space? Is it true that no memory nor identity remains? What has happened with all that is burried? Many people may conclude that the Forum of the Cultures is a non-place. However, when we look under the surface, we may find the many stories that occurred at this esplanade and that are now trapped beneath concrete. Could it be that a poor urbanistic management is the link behind a massive water treatment plant, slums and executions? We may experiment some disorientation when facing a contemporary space or structure. To place oneself relative to them is not easy. On the other hand, the perception of loneliness and no-communication in these spaces, may lead to involuntary isolation of the individual. As a consequence, a society in which we are forced to forget the past and accentuate our individualism has been built. Is the human footprint from the past, being demolished by the contemporary urbanistic development model? Is our individual and collective identity being diluted? All in all, I reflect through this work on urban landscape and memory.
