La acción de las organizaciones negras venezolanas responde a una estrategia de visibilización, de rescate de la memoria y afianzamiento de la identidad, que tiene su más reciente exponente en la inclusión de la variable étnico-racial en el censo 2011.[eng] The purpose of this article is to analyze the role of the Afro-Venezuelan social movements that in the last decades have developed activities and demands to affirm cultural differentiation and to claim historical rights in the context of a nation that, under the official discourse of crossbreeding and homogeneity, has traditionally denied its multiethnic character, in particular its Afro-descendant component.
