Larock reported a new methodology for the synthesis of the indole ring system based on the palladium-catalyzed heteroannulation of 2-iodoaniline and substituted alkyne moieties. This procedure was subsequently extended to the preparation of other nitrogen- and oxygen- containing heterocycles.
