[eng] The present research project aims to discover how Spanish teachers transfer to their students the intercultural component and whether they are aware of (and to what extent) their roles as cultural mediators. The study also investigates how teachers deal with the problems that arise when cultures come into contact, that is, how they treat the stereotype in class and, finally, what feedback they receive from the student throughout the learning process. To this end, eight interviews have been carried out with teachers of Spanish as a foreign language and, following the transcription and the elaboration of the corpus, a thematic analysis has been carried out. In this way, it has been possible to study, from testimonies and personal experiences, such important factors as what is understood by culture and how it is presented in the classroom. In addition, it has also been possible to analyze the role of teachers in the classroom towards the stereotype and whether or not they adopt a role of cultural mediators. The analysis reveals the lack of a unified criteria of the teachers in the presentation of intercultural competence in Spanish classes, as well as a list of factors that condition the process of adaptation and understanding of culture. |
