Abstract: [en] Jean-Robert Argand developed, at the beginning of the 19th century, a new theory for the geometric representation of complex numbers. In a fertile and underexplored field of science at the time, a little-known geometer gave ideas and results that contributed to the expansion and acceptance of complex mathematics. In this work we analyze his essay and the subsequent correspondence with other mathematicians.
