La Plaza del Carmel

[spa] Este trabajo consiste en el estudio descriptivo de la evolución de la Plaza del Carmel en la ciudad de Barcelona. Esta plaza tiene carácter transicional y es producto de la reparación de un accidente de construcción del metro de Barcelona que se conoce como el Socavón del Carmel. Coloquialmente los residentes le llaman “la plaza o el parque del socavón”. En este trabajo se presenta la síntesis histórica del desarrollo urbano del barrio y del territorio de la plaza, partiendo desde sus inicios rurales hasta nuestros días. También se listaron y analizaron elementos de arte público, memoria e identidad tanto en el entorno del barrio comode la plaza. El trabajo descriptivo se presenta a través de lenguaje escrito, cartogramas, gráficos y fotografías. También incluye un análisis de la plaza con base en las herramientas del diseño urbano, que incluye la aproximación al lugar, la escala y la métrica de la plaza, el estudio de plantas, secciones y la carta de colores. La conclusión más relevante es que la Plaza del Carmel corresponde a los terrenos más cercanos a la Masía de Can Grau, que junto a la Iglesia de Santa Teresa, conforman el núcleo original de desarrollo urbano del Carmel.

[eng] This work consists of a descriptive study about the evolution of El Carmel Square in the city of Barcelona. The square is of transitional character given it resulted from the mending of a building accident occurred during the construction of the L5 metro (route 5) in February 2005. The residents refer to this space as "the square” or “the park of the sinkhole". This paper aim to the synthesis of the history of urban development in the neighborhood, and more specifically, it focuses on the square, describing its rural past and ending with the description of what it is today. It also includes a list and analysis of public art, memory and identity elements placed both in the neighborhood and close to the square. This work is presented trough written descriptions, cartograms, graphics and photographs. It also includes an analysis of the square based on specific tools used in urban design, which take into account the scale and the metric of the square, the study of its plans and sections and the chart of colors. The most relevant conclusion of this study is that El Carmel Square corresponds to the closest zone to the nonlonger existing rural farm of Can Grau, which together with the Church of Santa Teresa, conforms the nucleus where the urban development of El Carmel began.
