Abstract: Diversity is inherent in our communication systems - languages. It is, in fact, the fruit of one of their fundamental resources, change, which allows them to adapt quickly and efficiently. However, this diversity has often been considered a problem, a defect to be overcome. Today, linguistic diversity is at a point of serious vulnerability. It is threatened by several factors, all related to political and social management, present and past. The vast majority of the world's languages are today very vulnerable. A significant number of them will disappear in the coming decades, but this is not an immediate process, it results from a standardising project that causes suffering and is a symptom of the propensity to domination and exclusion, as well as a lack of ability to live with diversity. Keywords: linguistic diversity, vulnerable languages, language policy, endangered languages, language change.
