Abstract: This document is a comprehensive introductory guide to using QGIS for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), aimed at social science researchers with no prior GIS experience. It covers the fundamentals of GIS concepts, data types (vector and raster), map projections, and coordinate reference systems, with a strong focus on practical skills such as data visualization, map creation, georeferencing, digitizing, and basic spatial analysis. The course emphasizes hands-on learning with QGIS—a free, open-source platform—highlighting its advantages for historical and economic research, especially in integrating spatial data from diverse sources and enabling new analytical approaches in the social sciences
