Retornar l’esplendor daurada: anàlisi de la viabilitat del redaurat com a mètode de reintegració cromàtica en suports a l’exterior.

[cat] Quan un monument emblemàtic com la Quadriga de l’Aurora torna a brillar sota el sol de Barcelona, la pregunta que ressona no és només “com s’ha fet?”, sinó “a quin preu?”. La pràctica de redaurar, entesa com una reintegració cromàtica, ofereix una imatge impactant, però no exempta de polèmica. El dilema presenta dues vessants: la tècnica i la conceptual. D’una banda, l’impacte dels materials aplicats sobre la matèria original, especialment quan es fan servir films impermeables sobre suports porosos. De l’altra, l’alteració de la percepció d’originalitat que pot provocar una intervenció mimètica i extensiva. Aquest treball analitza la viabilitat del redaurat sobre pedra exposada a la intempèrie, i la seva compatibilitat amb els criteris de reversibilitat, compatibilitat, discernibilitat i respecte per l’original. La metodologia combina un estudi teòric amb un examen tècnic de materials i casos recents, com el de la torre Elizabeth del Parlament Britànic. Els resultats evidencien que, tot i l’efectivitat estètica, el redaurat planteja reptes grans. Així doncs, només hauria de considerar-se en contextos molt específics i amb una justificació sòlida. La qüestió final no és si l’or torna a lluir, sinó si amb ell perviu el valor patrimonial.

[eng] When an emblematic monument like the Quadriga de l’Aurora shines again under the sun of Barcelona, the question that arises is not only “how was it done?” but “at what cost?”. Regilding, understood as a form of chromatic reintegration, offers a striking visual effect but is not without controversy. The dilemma has two sides: conceptual and technical. On one hand, the impact of materials on the original substrate, especially when waterproof films are applied on porous stone. On the other, the alteration in the perception of originality that may result from a mimetic and extensive intervention. This study analyzes the viability of regilding on stone surfaces exposed to the elements, evaluating its compatibility with core conservation principles: reversibility, compatibility, discernibility, and respect for the original. The methodology combines a conceptual review of both classical and contemporary theories with a technical analysis of commonly used materials. Recent case studies, such as the intervention on the Elizabeth Tower of the British Parliament, illustrate the tension between restoration and reconstruction. In conclusion, while regilding can be aesthetically effective, it raises major concerns. It should only be applied in specific cases with strong justification. Ultimately, the essential question is not whether gold shines again, but whether, through it, heritage value is preserved.
