We use file compression techniques to characterize colloidal gelation. The colloidal system is built through a diffusion-limited aggregation simulation, and at the gelation point, the growing dynamics are changed to emulate the transition. We compress images of the system before and after the gelation point. Using the computable information density (CID) we have been able to ascribe a second-order character to the transition.ca
