[cat] Aquest treball relaciona l'aparició del Banc de Barcelona (un dels primers bancs comercials i d'emissió d'Espanya i, fins a 1920, quan va tancar portes, el més important de Catalunya) amb l'ímpetu adquirit pel comerç i els negocis després de la regència d'Espartero. S'hi estudien els primers moments de la seva història, els seus fundadors i les seves principals operacions. Després de les lleis de 1856 l'experiència dels bancs peoners com aquest va resultar la font d'inspiració per als nous que es van crear. La principal aportació d'aquest va ser l'extensió d'instruments financers (bitllets, comptes corrents, etc.) que van facilitar els negocis; això va ser un important estímul per a la modernització de les finances.
[eng] This paper relates the creation of the Bank of Barcelona (one of the earliest commercial and issuing banks in Spain and, until its demise in 1920, the most important in Catalonia) to the trade and business boom which followed Espartero's Regency in Catalonia. The paper examines the bank's early history, its founders, and its main operations. Following the introduction of a new set of laws in 1856, the experience of pioneer banks such as this was the main source of inspiration for the new ones. In its case, the principal contribution was the extension of financial instruments, such as bank notes and current accounts, which facilitated business transactions and proved an important incentive for financial modernization.
