[eng] Three outstanding intellectuals of 13th century from the Catalan-Aragonese Crown share the common feature of having been the promoters of the first schools of Oriental languages in medieval Europe: Ramon de Penyafort (1185-1275), Ramon Martí (1230-1285) and Ramon Llull (1235- 1316). Namely, these are the Studia linguarum of the Dominicans, and Miramar, in Majorca, promoted by Ramon Llull from a theological approach close to the Franciscans. Our research starts with them and goes to the decree XXIX issued by the Council of Vienne of the Roman Catholic Church held in 1311-1312. In this Council was decreed the establishment of chairs of Arabic, Hebrew, and Chaldean at the main universities of the time. It was, furthermore, an acknowledgementof the projects of the three eminent scholars.
