Les Cròniques d'Espanya de Pere Miquel Carbonell: algunes claus per a la seva lectura

[cat] L'article passa revista general a aquesta història de Catalunya i de la Corona d'Aragó escrita per l'arxiver reial de Barcelona entre 1495 i 1513 i publicada pòstumament el 1547. S'hi estudia la personalitat intel·lectual de l'autor i la seva relació amb el cercle d'humanistes format a Barcelona al darrer terç del segle xv. Des d'un punt de vista metodològic, les Cròniques d'Espanya mostren senyals inequívocs de modernitat: la reflexió sobre la fiabilitat de les fonts, l'ús de documentació d'arxiu i el recurs a l'arqueologia i a l'etimologia. Els continguts qüestionen alguns dels mites historiogràfics medievals. L'article examina també la influència de l'obra damunt la historiografia catalana moderna i contemporània.

[eng] The article offers a general overview of this history of Catalonia and the Kingdom of Aragon, the work of the Barcelona royal archivist, written between 1495 and 1513 and printed posthumously in 1547. It examines the intellectual personality of the author and his relationship to the circle of humanisrs raised in Barcelona in the last third of the fifteenth century. As far as the methods are concerned, the Cròniques d'Espanya show unmistakeable signs of modernity: in their discussion of the reliability of the sources, in their use of archival documents, and in their recourse to archaeology and eirymology. In terms of their contents, they cast doubts on some of the medieval historical myths. Their influence on Catalan historiography of the early-modern and modern periods is also examined.
