Abstract
As it stands, handball is still regarded as a secondary sport in terms of data analysis. This paper is serves as an investigation into what productive analyses one is able to generate considering the scarcity of data available within this sport. For this purpose, several questions have been asked and we will solve them by carrying out an exploratory analysis of two data sets from the German handball league, the Bundesliga. In this way, we will be able to extract the information embedded in the data and address the posed questions through graphs and data visualisations. One dataset contains the individual statistics of the players in the league; the other, the matchday results. This data will be used to run different models with the objective of predicting a team’s victory in a match. The usage of data science and machine learning models has been crucial in the making of this study.
