(cast) Si bien la Ayahuasca ha sido una planta medicinal utilizada por miles de años en la Amazonía
de Sudamérica tal como dan cuenta de ello múltiples etnografías de biólogos, antropólogos y
viajeros, hace relativamente pocos años ha cobrado importancia y resonancia a nivel mundial.
Son muchas las personas de todas partes del mundo que acuden a estos países para realizar
terapias con esta raíz. Esta investigación trata de profundizar en las motivaciones de estas
personas, tanto por parte de los viajeros que se desplazan, como los locales que ya viven en los
países amazónicos. Ver si la planta se usa con propósitos terapéuticos para mejorar la salud o
con otro tipo de objetivos. A partir de varias fuentes documentales, entrevistas, encuestas y
grupos focales realizados en Perú, Bolivia y Colombia se mostrará que la necesidad de
autoconocimiento y mejora personal es una de las motivaciones más comunes en la búsqueda
de la experiencia con la planta.
(eng) As it has been documented by several biologists, anthropologists and famous travelers, Ayahuasca is known for being an alternative natural medicine used for centuries in the Amazon, in South America. However, for the past decades, Ayahuasca has gained more and more popularity worldwide. There are many people from around the world that travel to those Amazonian countries just to try a therapy with this famous root. This research tries to take a closer look at the motivations and the objectives of these people, either if they are travelers or locals already living in those countries. This research aims to discover if the plant is used for therapeutic purposes as a healing solution for health issues or, on the contrary, if there are many other purposes behind. Many documentary sources, interviews, surveys and focus groups conducted in Perú, Colombia and Bolivia will show how much the need of self- knowledge and personal growth became one of the most common motivations in the search of the experience with Ayahuasca.
