Abstract
[eng] This article looks at various aspects of the Kingdom of Majorca in the context of the general expansion offeudalism, more especially Catalan feudalism. First, it discusses &hether or not Majorca was a colony and whether, in fact, the concept is appropriate to this kind of society. Second, it studies the settlement strategy, once the indigenous population had been eliminated. Finally, it asks the question why the feudal lords of Majorca, in spite their coming from lands where serfdom was common, did not use this form of tying people to the land in their settlement of the island.
