[spa] A partir de un elenco variado de fuentes procedentes de archivos familiar-patrimoniales se estudian las causas/condiciones que han llevado a los padres y –a veces las madres–, titulares de la patria potestad, a emancipar a sus hijos, sobre quienes de estos solía recaer dicha liberación, las ventajas que acompañaban tal decisión, sus efectos en las familias y en las relaciones de parentesco.
[eng] Based on diverse sources from family and patrimonial archives, this study examines the reasons that led fathers and mothers, as holders of parental authority, to emancipate their sons; which sons were typically granted emancipation; the advantages associated with such decisions; and their effects on families and kinship relations.
