Gaussian analysis of the Gross-Neveu model

Abstract

The Gross-Neveu model is solved within a simple Gaussian approach. The ground state is correctly reproduced. We find that two phases escape the triviality problem. Bound states and the analogy with λ φ 4 theory are also considered.
